Part of the nine-figure Expanded Universe sub-line released under the Power of the Force II banner in 1998. This Luke is based on his appearance in the Dark Empire comic series (1991–1995), where he temporarily falls to the dark side while confronting a reborn Emperor Palpatine on the Imperial throne world of Byss. The red lightsaber reflects his flirtation with the dark side during the story.

By 1998 Kenner had slimmed down the proportions from the earlier “buff” POTF2 sculpts, and this Luke benefits from that shift. The figure features a new head mould with Dark Empire’s distinctive hairstyle and blue paint highlights on the arms replicating comic book shading. The long coat is a separate removable piece. The Expanded Universe sub-line was discontinued before the end of 1998 to make way for Episode I product, making it a short-lived but memorable corner of the POTF2 era.
